According to Nahuatl tradition, Teotihuacán means 'the place where men become gods.' When the Mexica found the city already in ruins, centuries after it was abandoned, they were so struck by the scale of its pyramids that they gave it that name and made it a pilgrimage site.
At its height, around 500 CE, it was one of the largest cities in the world, home to tens of thousands of people living along the Avenue of the Dead, the axis connecting the Pyramid of the Moon to the Citadel. The Pyramid of the Sun, standing over 60 meters tall, remains one of the largest pre-Columbian structures in the Americas.
No one knows for certain which people built it or why it was abandoned around the 7th century, one of the great mysteries of Mexican archaeology. Climbing to the top on a clear day, with the Valley of Mexico spread out below, is still one of the most powerful experiences the country has to offer.
This magnet was made to remind you of that view from the top of the pyramid. Scan it whenever you want to come back.
