Zacatecas was literally built on silver: starting in 1546, its mines were among the richest in the Spanish empire, and that wealth was carved into pink stone all over the city, especially on the façade of its cathedral, one of the high points of Churrigueresque baroque in Mexico. The historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993, fits between hills with streets that climb and drop without a single straight line.

From Cerro de la Bufa, reached by cable car flying over the city, you see all of Zacatecas at once: domes, alleys, and the irregular layout that follows the terrain instead of fighting it. Below, the Mina El Edén, active until the mid-20th century, is now toured by underground tram and even has a nightclub inside its tunnels.

Zacatecas is also the birthplace of mezcal and of a callejoneada tradition: nighttime walks through the streets with brass band music, mezcal, and groups of friends who join in along the way.

This magnet was made to remind you of that city carved in pink stone. Scan it whenever you want to come back.
