El Castillo has ruled over the plaza for more than a thousand years. It's the temple dedicated to Kukulkán, the feathered serpent, built with a precision that still amazes: 91 steps on each of its four sides, plus the top platform, add up to the 365 days of the solar year.

Twice a year, at the equinoxes, the pyramid's shadow draws the body of a serpent slithering down the staircase until it joins the stone-carved head at the base of the structure. Thousands of people travel just to watch those few minutes of moving shadow.

Around El Castillo, the Maya city spreads out into the Great Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors, and the Sacred Cenote, a natural sinkhole where offerings of jade, ceramics, and gold have been found. In 2007, Chichén Itzá was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

This magnet was made to remind you what it feels like to stand in front of something built to last centuries. Scan it whenever you want to come back.
