El imán oficial de colección
Official collectible magnet
Tulum is the only walled Maya city built right on the coast, its temples perched directly above a white-sand cliff over turquoise water. Its original name was Zamá, 'dawn' or 'city of the sunrise,' because El Castillo, its main temple, is oriented to catch the first light over the Caribbean.
Unlike Chichén Itzá or Palenque, Tulum flourished late in Maya history, between the 13th and 15th centuries, and was still inhabited and active as a trading port when the first Spaniards arrived in 1518, describing it, from the sea, as a city as large as Seville.
Today the ruins share the shoreline with one of Mexico's most photographed beaches, where iguanas sunbathe among the stones and visitors climb down a small wooden staircase to swim right below the pre-Hispanic structures, something no other archaeological site in the country offers.
This magnet was made to remind you of that sunrise between ruins and sea. Scan it whenever you want to come back.
